AMBER WOLFE
Amber Wolfe is an astrologer, Waldorf teacher, and musician. Amber performs solo, with Zizia, and the duo, Ganesh and Wolfe. Her forthcoming album, Half of Dust, will be released in November 2026 by Sedimental and Feeding Tube records.
Amber has been part of the ecological sound art group Zizia since 2018. She and Jarrod Fowler collaborated with Michael Pisaro-Liu as the group Pisaura, which released Asteraceae (Sedimental, 2020). Zizia’s album, Genera (hibari, 2023) includes sonic contributions from 36 other musicians. Recently, Amber has begun performing with improviser Ananya Ganesh as Ganesh & Wolfe.
As Amber Wolfe, she composes and performs folk songs with guitar and voice. Her familiarity with mythology, folklore, and fairytales weave throughout her lyrics, which reflect her connection to the cycles of the natural world. Amber accompanies herself with minimalist guitar, often in nonstandard tunings derived from ancient associations between the planets and musical scales.
Wolfe’s compositions often reflect the practice of astrological indeterminacy, whereby she selects tones that reflect the position of the planets at the time of a concert or recording. Her masters thesis, Tone Art: Astrology, Anthroposophy, Music details her approach to astrological indeterminacy and its connection to the philosophy of Rudolf Steiner, founder of Waldorf Education.
Amber was born and raised in Takoma Park, Maryland, lived for many years in Massachusetts’ Connecticut River Valley, and now resides on the New Hampshire seacoast.
BETH KAPLAN
Beth Kaplan founded the Boston band Salem 66 with guitarist Judy Grunwald and drummer Susan Merriam in 1981. Known for haunting vocals and melodic bass lines, Salem 66 released five records on New York's Homestead label before breaking up in 1990.
In 2025, Don Giovanni Records remastered the long out-of-print original recordings and released them for the first time on the streaming services along with SALT, a new vinyl /CD compilation, featuring liner notes by Franklin Bruno, essays from the two songwriters, and a slew of previously unpublished photos. As Rolling Stone put it, "lost 1980s Indie rock pioneers Salem 66 are getting their moment in the sun."
The 2025 re-release prompted Chris Brokaw (Come, Codeine) to invite Beth to play at his record release party, launching her unexpected re-entry into playing and writing music after more than 30 years spent purposely doing other things.
The two have continued to play shows around New York and New England, now joined by keyboardist Franklin Bruno (Nothing Painted Blue, Human Hearts) and drummer Luther Gray (Tsunami, Ida, Fully Celebrated Orchestra).
NORA KNIGHT
Memory Waste is proud to present The Moon Is My Watchdog, the debut album by Catskill-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Nora Knight (Constant Smiles, Glenn Echo, Yours Are the Only Ears). These seven songs, presented in the order they were written, tell a story of sorts about one relationship fraying, and another beginning and fraying again. With a strong sense of place woven throughout, they ask big questions and muse on the passage of time. They are vulnerable, searching, and wise beyond their years. Recorded in home studios in New York and Massachusetts, these confessional vignettes are streaked with surprising colors: birdsong and rain patter, a little doo-wop, Mellotron, and soaring violin. There are echoes of Edith Frost’s slow sparkle, Lucinda Williams’ stoic grace, and the Marine Girls’ romantic longing—all pulled together under the watchful eye of the same moon.
STELLA KOLA
Broadly speaking, the music of Stella Kola could be labeled psychedelic folk, although the term feels limited and pedestrian when one encounters the elegant majesty of the work itself. While drinking from the same well as Shirley Collins, Fairport Convention, C.O.B., Pentangle, Anne Briggs, Bridget St. John, and the like, not for a second does it play as a retro exercise. The music wears its influences comfortably, swimming in the atmosphere of its forebearers without feeling beholden to stylistic conceits or overt reference. If you're looking for flashy hipsterism, you've stumbled into the wrong tavern. It's a dream band, impossible to place, arising from somewhere beyond the individuals responsible. Stella Kola is an entity larger than all that. A small tear in the fabric of time allowing some light from The Land of Timelessness to come dancing through. RIYL: Bridget St. John, Slapp Happy, Broadcast, C.O.B., Julie Tippetts, Myriam Gendron, Tia Blake, Julee Cruise, Blossom Dearie, Vashti Bunyan, Kevin Ayers and the Whole World.
