Kimaya Diggs - "Quincy" Album Release Show

SOLD OUT (NO TIX AT DOOR)
G.A. (standing)
Doors open at 7pm

Kimaya Diggs releases her second LP, Quincy! Come celebrate! The anticipated followup to her debut album Breastfed, Quincy explores Kimaya's full-band sound. With deep roots in soul, the storytelling elements of the singer-songwriter tradition, and indie rock bones, Quincy is a joyful expression of surviving several years of grief.

Created over the course of three years, Quincy showcases Kimaya's expansive voice, emotional songwriting, and newfound love of the guitar.

The band includes Jacob Rosazza and Jake Edwards (Lux Deluxe), Naomi Nye, Maisie Dolan, and Reed Sutherland. Special guests TBA.

This will be Kimaya's only hometown show during spring and summer 2023 -- come on out!

Preorder the album at www.kimayadiggs.com

KIMAYA DIGGS is a musician and writer, born and based in the rolling hills of Western Massachusetts. The sounds of her childhood included Emily Dickinson, Ella Fitzgerald, Whitney Houston, 70’s soul, and songs around the table with her family.

A fourth-generation artist, Kimaya grew up singing with her sisters, and found her voice across the facets of neo-soul, jazz, and R&B. She’s crafted a genre-defying style that celebrates the power and dexterity of her voice. Slippery and acrobatic at times, earthy and urgency-filled at others, her voice has been called “smoothly captivating” by the Daily Hampshire Gazette. Her songwriting beautifully captures the spectrum of her vocal range, and the singular control she has over her instrument.

Recently, to commemorate Black History Month in 2022, she released a cover of Solange’s “Cranes in the Sky,” a song that documents a journey towards self-love. Her single They Can Say What They Like, released in 2021 on A-Side B-Side Records, written to benefit Cancer Connection, Inc., raising over $2000 for the organization. It placed #6 in 93.9 The River’s Best New Songs of 2021.

Her sophomore album, Quincy, comes out March 9, 2023.

Mtali Banda opens the evening.

Mtali Shaka Banda is a saxophonist currently based in Massachusetts. Having grown up in the midwest and south, and being the son of a Malawian refugee father, and an African-American mother, he was raised on a diverse set of sounds which is no doubt reflected in his music. He has lived a fruitful musical life, and has had the priviledge of sharing the stage with Sonia Sanchez, Talib Kweli, The Soul Rebels, Anik Khan, Penn Badgely, and artists from The.Wav.
He is currently the band leader of the Mtali Banda Oneness Project, which is a blend of Hip Hop, Jazz, and Soul music aimed at not just creating a sound, but also spreading a conscious message. He toured as the saxophonist for the Jeremy Turgeon Quintet, and was the composer and saxophonist for Mixed-Race Mixtape—a hip-hop theater piece which toured nationally.
His musical versatility has brought him all around the world. Just this past year he recorded in Southern Africa and performed with several well-known African artists, including Faith Musa and LAWI. As a first generation Malawian-American, he is apart of a growing southern African music scene that has embraced jazz as a means for social change.
He is currently finishing his debut album, “Rites of Passage”. A concept jazz album that uses jazz to tell a coming of age story that attempts to redefine and reclaim black manhood.
