Presented as part of the Fine Arts Center’s Asian and Asian American Arts and Culture and Reimagine Residencies programs.

Mary Prescott is a Thai American interdisciplinary artist, composer, and pianist who explores identity and social conditions through experiential performance. Prescott’s 2026 work, Ancestral Table, examined the relationships between ecology, migration, cultural inheritance, and maternal legacy through performance paired with a shared meal prepared with family recipes that were passed down from Prescott’s mother. In 2024’s Sunder: Studies in Grief and Ease, Prescott intertwined film, movement, text, sound, and installation to guide audiences through a deep personal meditation on grief.

During a residency with the Fine Arts Center, Prescott will develop a new work that she believes will likely take the form of an evening-length interdisciplinary performance involving music, movement, text, video, and installation. Prescott’s new piece will examine the ways in which environments shape culture, ritual, and belief systems, and imagine how our contemporary environments and technologies may influence societies and beliefs in the future. We hope you’ll join us as part of the first audience anywhere to encounter this exciting new creation by a visionary artist.

The Washington Post has described Prescott’s work as “a bright light cast forward,” calling it “uncompromising” and “masterfully envisioned.”
