Tim Eriksen is a songwriter whose work has been covered by Alison Krauss, Bonny “Prince” Billy and Joan Baez, a ballad singer given the Jean Ritchie Musical Heritage Award by Ritchie herself, a prominent shapenote singer whose work appears in The Sacred Harp and a hardcore punk musician with a degree in South Indian veena. The long collaboration between Eriksen and percussionist Peter Irvine has included Bosnian ensemble Žabe I Babe and folk/noise trio Cordelia’s Dad, the only band to have appeared with both Doc Watson and Nirvana. In April 2026 Eriksen and Irvine will see the release of their first duo album on the audiophile label Soundkeeper Recordings. Absence and her sister is a dreamstate exploration of new and traditional music from an imaginary New England village.

Eriksen’s film work includes the Oscar winning Cold Mountain and 2023 indie-horror phenomenon The Outwaters. His live performances bring together a range of sounds from his multiple musical lives: traditional banjo, fiddle and song from New England and southern Appalachia, family music from ex-Yugoslavia, moments tinged with punk rock, new music for his one-of-a-kind fretless bajo sexto and songs for fretless banjo written for his collaboration with pianist Omar Sosa in a follow up to their twice GRAMMY nominated 2009 album Across The Divide.

Tim Eriksen is:

--“otherworldly”- Barbara Kingsolver
--“the best ballad singer of his generation”- BBC Radio 2
--“loud”- The New York Times
